This release comes bundled with allot of brand new features. Along with stability and feature improvements, the two main new features are the ability to click on your own video and choose “resize all windows” simultaneously. The second new feature is a very cool enhancement which allows you to find your friends easily. By choosing the new “highlight friends” feature, when a person on your friends list enters a room, their name will be highlighted, enabling you to locate them quickly.

Whilst not in the same league as Paltalk Scene it is well worth checking out.

I must stress that this is a Beta release, so users may experience some problems, including problems with video rendering (user will be switched over to the old client rendering system if your pc is not able to process it).

This effect has also placed increased bandwidth load on the servers and by upgrading to the 5.X client there will be an all round improvement for users and servers alike.

For this reason all 3.X users must upgrade to 5.X and Camfrog 3.X users will find themselves blocked when trying to log on to the server.

The Camfrog blog has also advised in coming weeks support for Camfrog 4.X will end and it will also be blocked.

WebcamNow it is fair to say caters primarily for the more adult chat room activities, there is a family friendly area, but the number of users in this area are fairly small (as opposed to the open area, which is bustling with users). Along with other browser based chat environment ( such as ANYwebcam and many others we will be reviewing ) the experience in the past has been a buggy and frustrating one. But WebcamNow is worth a second look (look for the review soon), just be aware this is an experience catered toward a mature audience, visiting the open area will expose you to nudity and adult themes.

We will be looking at more browser based “video chat communities” over coming weeks to give you, the reader, the heads up on what you will find there and help you to choose a place(s) that you may wish to use.

Hot on the heals of the release of the Windows based Camfrog 5.1, Camfrog’s blog blog.camfrog.com has announced a new release of their new Mac port, Camfrog Client 1.7. With improved stability and larger and improved video quality, mac users should “do themselves a favour” and check it out.

Some of the new features include the ability to set different visibility levels for various friends, just like the windows version, improved stability when running on the same system as Windows Live Messenger and the ability to import your friends who are using Windows Live Messenger.
